Group Photo with AwardCLEVELAND, OH (February 28, 2014) Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center (www.chsc.org) announced today that its event, the Cleveland Big Wheel Relay, was named Fundraiser of the Year in the 7th Annual Connector’s Choice Awards, honored in the category of corporate events with a planning budget under $50,000.

One of 26 awards given, CHSC’s award was presented in front of 500 other event planning and networking professionals at the State Theatre at Playhouse Square as part of the 7th Annual Connector’s Choice Awards presented by CBC Magazine.

“We’re thrilled that our inaugural Big Wheel Relay was recognized this week among so many other wonderful events, people and businesses,” said CHSC Executive Director, Bernard Henri. “The young professionals on our volunteer associate board, New Partners of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, worked so hard to get the event off the ground last year. They planned a unique and exhilarating event, and with the help of over 200 individual donations from participants’ friends and families, raised over $17,500 to support the Center’s mission. I’m thrilled that their efforts were recognized.”

The first-ever Cleveland Big Wheel Relay took place on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Shaker Square. With over 100 race participants and hundreds more in attendance, the exciting and amusing race was formed to help support CHSC in its mission to provide services and support for individuals in the Northeast Ohio community so that they may communicate effectively.

“I’d like to thank the Cleveland community for helping to make our inaugural event last year such a success,” said Anna Marie Ricciardi, vice-president of New Partners of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center and co-chair of the annual event. “I am so proud of our volunteers who helped organize the event, but realize that we couldn’t have had such success without the help of the sponsors, vendors, and hundreds of participants that came together to help us meet and exceed our goals in supporting the Center’s mission. We’re expecting this year’s event to be even more successful and impactful.”

Registration is currently open for the 2nd Annual Cleveland Big Wheel Relay, set to take place again in Shaker Square on Saturday, June 14 from 2-5 p.m. Those interested in participating can do so by visiting www.clevelandbigwheelrelay.com or by contacting Kate Gagne at CHSC at (216) 231-8787 or kgagne@chsc.org.
