About Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center
Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center (CHSC) has a long and remarkable history of helping individuals with communication challenges become independent members of the Greater Cleveland Community. Founded in 1921, we began with the simple mission of providing lipreading classes for adults who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We are the nation’s oldest hearing and speech center and Northeast Ohio’s only nonprofit organization dedicated solely to serving those with special communication needs. CHSC consistently serves nearly 8,000 children and adults each year and provides the following programs and services: Hearing, Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Speech-Language and Learning. The Center also oversees the management of the Regional Infant Hearing Program (RIHP), which services 14 counties in Northeast Ohio.
A staff of more than 50 professionals — audiologists, sign language interpreters, speech-language pathologists, outreach specialists and administrative staff — are employed at the Center’s headquarters in University Circle and three branch offices in South Euclid, Broadview Heights and Lorain.
How Does Your Money Help CHSC? One of the main missions of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center is to serve those in the community who cannot afford the services they require.
Here’s a snapshot of how your money can help those in the Cleveland area:
- $50 will cover the cost for an adult who is Deaf to receive individualized case management services for one hour
- $160 will provide an older adult with a comprehensive hearing examination
- $500 will cover weekly 30-minute individual speech-language therapy sessions for eight weeks, sufficient time to see meaningful progress in communication skills
- $1,000 will help the family of an infant with hearing loss receive services through the Regional Infant Hearing Program for four months
